Common Face Yoga mistakes

The most common mistakes are treating Face Yoga as optional and leaving the last 15 minutes of class, copying fast videos without relaxing the muscle afterwards, and using so much force that the jaw and forehead tighten instead of tone. Mallika's correction is slower shapes, a full release after each hold, and staying until the block is finished.

What first-timers get wrong

  • Leaving before Face Yoga starts. Mallika watched this for years. The students who stayed were the ones whose faces changed.
  • Holding the breath. The face cannot soften if the rest of the body is braced.
  • Only working the parts they dislike. A jaw routine with a tight neck underneath rarely lasts.
  • Expecting a 20 kg body change and a facelift on the same crash timetable. The face needs the same patience Mallika insists on for weight.

I didn't give up. I would make those two or four people who stayed do the Face Yoga. Later, when the others came back and saw the glow, they slowly started joining.

Questions students actually ask

Can Face Yoga create more wrinkles?

Repeating a crease without releasing it — for example scrunching the forehead and never smoothing it — can emphasise a line. That is a technique problem. Classes that end each move with a release are designed to avoid it.
